Marjorie Barstow (1899-1995) was trained
by FM Alexander. Marjorie's Sydney workshops in 1986 were captured and edited
to create this 83 minute color video.
Video Sequences
- Day One
- a sequence presenting the different
approaches that Marj takes when introducing the work to beginners including
a long lesson given to a woman on a bicycle.
- Walking
- A series of excerpts from Marj's workshops showing her giving verbal instructions
with hands-on in the activity of walking.
- Voice
- Marj gives five lessons on voice work.
- Musicians
- Both short and long sequences of Marj's work with musicians.
- Constructive Thinking
- Marj developed her own unique language to express the work foregoing Alexander's
terms for carefully considered alternatives. Here is a demonstration of her
own language being applied to pupils.
- The Potter
- In what amounts to a complete lesson, this long sequence shows Marj working
with one man while he is moulding some pottery.
